To use SmartSpeed Dash gates in the SmartSpeed Plus iOS app, you will firstly need to update the firmware on each of your SmartSpeed Dash timing units.
Only SmartSpeed Dash BLE models are compatible with the SmartSpeed Plus app. See our guide to identify your timing units.
Before you begin
Download the firmware updater
Click to download SmartSpeed Dash Firmware updater (.exe)
If your web browser presents a warning against the downloaded file, click the three dots next to the download and choose to Keep the file. If prompted to trust the file, click on Show more, then select Keep anyway.
What you will need
To update your firmware, you will need the following:
- SmartSpeed Dash timing units and reflectors.
- Micro USB - USB-A cable capable of both power and data transfer.
Note: The Micro USB - USB-A cable provided with your system may carry power only, therefore a cable that carries data will be required.
- Windows computer (with volume turned on).
- A thin and pointy object (e.g. paperclip or toothpick).
Update your firmware
These instructions are relevant for Windows computers.
- Open the "SmartSpeed Dash Firmware Upgrader – 2.2.00" file on your Windows computer.
- Once open, align your SmartSpeed Dash timing unit with a reflector as shown below.
- Place the timing unit into Bootloader Mode by performing the following steps:
-
- Turn the timing unit off by holding down the Power Button.
- Connect the timing unit to your computer via Micro USB cable and ensure your computer volume is turned up.
|
You will hear a 'device detected' sound on your Windows computer if you are using a micro USB cable with data transfer capabilities. If you do not hear a sound, your cable is power only and your Dash units will not be discoverable on your computer. You will need to use a different cable.
-
- Release the power button, wait a moment, then release the Bootloader button.
- If the timing unit has successfully entered Bootloader Mode, the power LED will be off and pressing the power button will not do anything.
- In the SmartSpeed Dash Firmware Upgrader on your computer, click UPGRADE and wait for the program to say Upgrade complete.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Hold down the power button of the timing unit until the LED turns solid green to turn off Bootloader Mode.
- Repeat steps 2 – 6 for all remaining SmartSpeed Dash timing units.
After you have successfully updated the firmware of your SmartSpeed Dash timing units, you can now connect to these using the new SmartSpeed Plus iOS app.
