You can use your DynaMo Plus, DynaMo Lite, or DynaMo Max device to perform any number of range of motion (ROM) tests with your patients or athletes. This guide will walk you through how to perform a range of motion test using DynaMo on iOS or Android.
Wanting to perform more than one test on a client? Create a test battery to easily transition between any number of strength and range of motion tests in quick succession.
Before you begin
You must connect your DynaMo Plus, DynaMo Lite, or DynaMo Max to your smart device before you start testing.
Additionally, you need to choose between the two ROM testing modes - Auto Detect and Manual. To allow better control over the start and end of movements, we recommend using Manual mode.
Navigate to Settings > ROM Settings and toggle "Auto Detect Range of Motion" on or off.
Set up your test
- Open and log in to the DynaMo app on your device, then click the plus icon in the middle of the bottom menu.
- Select a profile for your test from the list.
Can't find the right profile? If you've created the profile elsewhere (e.g. VALD Hub), you may need to refresh your profiles. Otherwise, create a new profile in the top-right.
- Choose your test region by clicking the plus icon on the relevant body part.
Depending on the region chosen, you can have the person being tested either hold the DynaMo device in their hand, or strapped to the limb using the ROM strap.
- Select ROM, then select the Movement you want to perform from the available list.
The list of possible movements will vary depending on the body region you have chosen.
-
Select the Position for the assessment from the available list.
The list of possible positions will vary depending on the previous options you have chosen. - Select the side you want to start testing on between 'Left' and 'Right'. Body regions with no laterality (i.e. trunk, neck) will only have the one option to select.
- Click Ready to test.
If you selected Auto Detect ROM, you must ensure the patient is in the correct starting position when you click Ready to test.
Record your test
If you selected Manual ROM, you must click Start and Finish at the beginning and end of each rep.
- Perform the test on the selected side, following the prompts on the screen - "Please remain steady", "Perform the movement", "Please return to starting position".
Unsure what the correct test protocol should be? Click the info button in the top-right of the test screen, or visit our DynaMo Plus, DynaMo Lite, or DynaMo Max protocol guides.
- After performing the test for any number of repetitions, click Next side. If performing a test with no laterality, skip to step 4.
- Perform the test on the other side for any number of repetitions.
Need to delete a bad rep? See our guide on deleting incorrect reps from your test.
- Click Finish testing.
You will then be presented with a Test Summary. This will show summary results for the entire test, as well as a breakdown for each rep.
If the profile has completed this test type before, you will see percentage change markers (from second visit onwards) and longitudinal graphs (from third visit onwards) to show their progress over time.
