Your VALD Connect setup route depends on your operating system and how you access Power BI:
- The Quick Start (template-based) setup requires Power BI Desktop, which is only available on Windows devices. *
- The Advanced (manual) setup can be used in either Power BI Desktop or in the browser, but is only recommended for users proficient with Power BI.
* Mac users may be able to run Power BI Desktop using a virtual machine setup.

Quick start (recommended)
For the majority of users (with access to a Windows operating system), the quick start method using the Power BI template is recommended for the simplest and most efficient setup.
Before you begin

A valid VALD account part of an organization that has been provisioned for VALD Connect.Only our team can grant your organization access to VALD Connect.

A Windows device* with Power BI Desktop installed.* Or virtual machine running Windows on a Mac.

The Power BI template file (.pbit) and Delta Sharing URL to perform the setup.You will have received both of these in your welcome email from our team.
Set up VALD Connect via template
- Open the .pbit template file – it should open automatically in Power BI Desktop.
- Enter your Delta Sharing URL in the pop-up that appears and press Load.
- On the following authentication pop-up, click Sign in.
- Log in with your VALD account credentials: email and password.
- Once authenticated, click Connect on the following Delta Sharing pop-up.
Your data will begin loading; wait for this process to complete.
Once the data has loaded, you will see a blank report canvas with data available in the right sidebar.
You are now ready to start working with your data – building reports, visualizations and more in Power BI.
Advanced setup
VALD data is made up of multiple related tables containing measurements, profiles, organization info and other attributes. These tables must be correctly linked for accurate filtering, grouping and reporting.
If you use the template as above, all required relationships between tables will be pre-configured. Otherwise, you will need to manually define these relationships.
If relationships are set up incorrectly, the resulting data analysis may be inaccurate or incomplete.
