Common issues
Unable to log in or connect
- If you are unable to log in, ensure that your access has been correctly provisioned and that you are signing in with the correct credentials.
- If the connection fails, check that the data share URL has been copied correctly.
Data not loading or incomplete
- If no data appears after loading, confirm that your user account has the appropriate permissions.
- If data appears incomplete, check Power BI row limits and ensure they have been increased where necessary.
- If data loading is slow, this may be due to the performance of your computer or the size of your dataset.
Switching accounts in Power BI
Power BI may automatically sign you into a previously used account. To switch users, reset cached authentication:
Browser:
- Remove connection: Settings → Manage connections → delete/clear Delta Sharing connection
- Use private window: Open link in incognito/private mode and sign in again
Desktop (recommended):
-
Clear permissions: File → Options and settings → Data source settings
- Remove Delta Sharing entries under both current file and global
- Reconnect and sign in
Alternative:
- Enable Use my default browser for authentication
- Sign in with a different account (or clear browser credentials)
Still stuck?
- Use another browser profile or private window
- Ensure no active sessions remain

Frequently asked questions
How do I gain access to VALD Connect?
To request access for your organization, reach out to valdconnect@vald.com and our team will guide you through the onboarding process.
Can I use VALD Connect on a Mac?
Yes – but with limitations. Power BI Desktop is not available on Mac devices and you will need a virtual machine to run it. Keep in mind that, when using a virtual machine, you may experience performance or compatibility issues.
If you have a Mac device, you may use the browser version of Power BI. This will require either a) completing the quick start setup and publishing your template to Power BI Online, or b) completing the advanced setup with the guidance of our team.
Contact valdconnect@vald.com to discuss the specifics of your VALD Connect configuration.
Should I use the Power BI template or connect manually?
We strongly recommend using the Power BI template, as it includes pre-configured table relationships and provides the simplest setup experience.
Manual setup is intended for advanced users only and requires additional configuration.
Will the template overwrite my file or data?
No – the template opens as a new working file. When you save it, it creates your own Power BI report file, leaving the original template unchanged.
Why does my data look incorrect or incomplete?
This is typically caused by incorrect or missing relationships between tables. If you have not used the template for setup, ensure relationships are correctly configured and refer to VALD data model documentation.
Power BI has created relationships automatically – should I use them?
Depending on your default settings, Power BI may automatically create relationships between tables when you load your data. However, these may be incorrect and cause inaccurate results.
If automatic relationships have been established, you will need to manually review and recreate relationships while referring to VALD data model documentation – provided by our team by getting in touch with valdconnect@vald.com.
If in doubt about setting up relationships, opt to use the quick start (template-based) method instead.
Can I use tools other than Power BI?
Yes – but support is primarily available for Power BI at present. If you are interested in using VALD Connect with an alternative tool at this stage, contact valdconnect@vald.com.
Do I need to load every data table?
No – you have the option to select only the tables relevant to your analysis. However, keep in mind that some analyses may require the loading of multiple related tables linked via relationships.
Why is my data taking a long time to load?
Load time depends on the size of the dataset and your device's performance.
Why am I only seeing a subset of my data?
This may be due to row limits in Power BI or incomplete loading. Ensure your settings allow all rows to load and that the connection process has completed successfully.
Why can I sign in but not access my data?
Your account may not be authorized to access your organization's shared datasets. Contact our team at valdconnect@vald.com to confirm your access has been provisioned correctly.
Can I use Power BI in my browser instead of desktop?
Yes – but keep in mind that the browser version is more constrained in terms of features and setup, and may require additional steps.
With this in mind, Power BI Desktop is recommended for the initial setup. This also allows you to use the pre-configured template to configure your VALD Connect, as the template cannot be used in the browser.
