If a specific movement or exercise is not available as part of the MoveHealth exercise library, you have the ability to create your own custom exercise.
Custom exercises are created via Program Builder in your VALD Hub, and contain information such as written instructions, equipment and an attached image or video. They can be added to exercise programs and program templates as normal, and subsequently accessed by patients through their MoveHealth app.
Image and video uploads (optional)
To make sure your media files look the best they can in Program Builder and MoveHealth, follow the below guidance:
- Film or take the photo in landscape mode, not portrait.
- Have the subject centered in the camera frame – the edges of the image may be trimmed.
- If you've taken a video, choose a single representative frame and take a screenshot for the image thumbnail.
Supported file types | |
| Images: | jpg jpeg png |
| Videos: | mov mp4 |
Attaching an image or video to your custom exercise is done via Dropbox.
For the smoothest experience uploading and managing media files, we recommend installing the Dropbox mobile app on the same device where you usually use the camera, i.e. your phone or tablet.
How to upload your files
- Open the Dropbox app and press Log in, or Sign up to create a free account.
- From your device's gallery or photos app, find the picture and/or video you wish to upload. Tap the Share icon.
- Find and select Dropbox in the list of apps to share to, pressing Add to Dropbox when it appears.
- If prompted to Choose upload location in the Dropbox app, press Upload here.
Recommended: Set up a folder structure to keep your custom exercise media files organized.
- Once your file has been successfully uploaded, navigate to Dropbox in your browser.
- Locate your file and click the link icon
to copy a shareable link to use in VALD Hub.
You are now ready to create a custom exercise for MoveHealth with your own attached media file(s).
Create a custom exercise
- Navigate to the Program Builder section of VALD Hub.
- Click on the Custom category between VALD Exercises and Favorites in the navigation.
- On the 'Create your own' tile, press the Create Exercise button.
-
Fill out the details for your custom exercise:
- Exercise title *
- Image link
- Video link
- Effort type
- Load type
- Instructions *
* Exercise title and instructions are required, and effort/load must be selected from options.
Note: Sets, reps and rest are configured at the next step when adding the exercise to a program.
- Select either Create Exercise or Create and add to program.
- If an image or video has been linked, click Proceed to accept the media upload disclaimer.
Add a custom exercise to your program
Whether you add your exercise to a program or template immediately or later on from the Custom category, you will be presented with the usual exercise options to configure.
See more at Create and assign an exercise program.
Important notes:
- Custom exercises are organization-wide, so other users in your organization will be able to view and edit them (providing they have the MoveHealth Practitioner permission, which grants access to Program Builder).
- Media files can be uploaded and linked from any Dropbox account – you aren't constrained to using a single Dropbox.
- If a linked file is broken, invalid or no longer available in Dropbox, you or your client will see the following thumbnails for the exercise. Check that your file is successfully uploaded and that the link is working as expected.
