Strong passwords are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your data from unauthorized access.
We help secure your VALD account with various technical controls. However, the responsibility is also yours to ensure your password is created and managed in line with your organization's security policies and best practices.
Minimum password requirements
Your VALD password must:
- Contain at least 15 characters
- Include a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols*
* e.g. punctuation such as !@#$%^&* - Use only standard characters (no accented or special characters aside from those above)
- Not contain more than two identical characters in a row
Note: Your organization may have additional requirements. Make sure your password meets both VALD requirements and your internal security standards.
Good password practices
We recommend following password best practices to help protect your account, client and test data.
- Use a strong and unique password, such as a passphrase
- Avoid common or easily guessed patterns (e.g,. password123)
- Never share your password with others
- Do not store passwords in plain text (e.g., notes or spreadsheets)
- Report any suspected account compromise to your IT team or administrator immediately
In addition, we suggest organizations align their internal password policies with industry-recognized security guidance such as NIST password standards.
