You can now connect to your SmartSpeed Dash gates in the SmartSpeed Plus app. Similar to the workflow in the SmartSpeed app, this is done by connecting to one Dash timing unit as your primary device, which in turn will connect to all other timing units on the same channel.
Before you begin
To connect to your SmartSpeed Dash devices in the SmartSpeed Plus app, you must firstly update the firmware of each Dash timing unit.
Set up your gates
Turn your gates on
- Align the front of your timing unit so that it is pointing towards a reflector, then press the Power Button to turn on all SmartSpeed Dash timing units.
It is highly recommended to align each timing unit with a reflector when turned on. If the unit is not aligned correctly it will emit a high-pitched beeping sound.
Set the Channel
The Channel must be exactly the same on all timing gates.
- Hold down the Channel Button for three seconds until the display turns on and the device beeps.
- Continually press until the Channel Display now shows the channel that you desire.
- Repeat these steps for each timing gate, keeping the Channel the same.
Set the ID
The ID must be different for all timing gates, with the primary device always having an ID of 0.
- Hold down the ID Button for three seconds until the display turns on and the device beeps.
- Continually press until the ID Display now shows an ID of 0 – this will be your primary device.
- Repeat these steps for each timing gate, changing the ID for each gate (1, 2, 3, etc.).
Connect to your primary device
- Open the SmartSpeed Plus iOS app and log in using your VALD credentials.
- Click the button. This will search for any SmartSpeed Dash units with an ID of 0 (i.e. the primary device).
- Select your primary device and click to return to the home screen.
Connect to additional timing gates
After connecting to your primary device, this will automatically connect to any other SmartSpeed Dash timing gates that are on the same channel. To check that all of your gates are connected, click the Bluetooth icon in the top-right, or in the menu bar.
Can't see all of your gates?
Your missing gates may be on a different channel. Click the "Re-scan gates" button and this will search for gates on every other channel available.
If your missing gates appear, click the three dots next to the gate and select Edit channel.
Set up your drill
- After you've confirmed that all of your gates are connected, click Start a session.
- Set up your session by choosing your Drill type, Drill name, and other settings. When ready, click Review gates layout.
- To set up your gate order, you will need to physically pass through each gate in order then click Confirm in-app.
- Select the relevant profiles for the athletes that will be completing the drill. You can choose a specific Group that you have previously set up in VALD Hub or click into the Profiles tab to select athletes individually.
- Click Add to queue and review your athlete list in the queue.
- You can reorder your athletes at this stage, or remove a profile from the current queue*.
* This will only remove the athlete from the current queue, not from the group in VALD Hub.
Click and drag to reorder. | Click orange X to remove. |
- Click Confirm when you are ready to begin your session. You will then see the name of your first athlete appear in the SmartSpeed Plus app.
- When your first athlete is lined up at the starting gate and ready to begin the drill, click Ready to arm the timing gates. After they break the beam on the first gate, their time will begin.
- Once the athlete breaks the final gate in the drill, the time will cease and by displayed in the app. If you have more than one athlete in your queue, the next athlete will then be displayed if you have set the profile selection to automatic.
- When you are ready to end your session, click the pause button, then click Finish.
