Note: HumanTrak calculates broad jump distance as the change in the center of mass (CoM) position across the screen in either direction. This may differ from other settings using analog measurement where the distance is often taken from the toe at take-off to the heel at landing.
Starting position
This test requires a stationary period before the movement commences. Remain still to allow the HumanTrak system to calibrate, following on-screen prompts before commencing the test.
-
Move so that the tracking circle is to one side of the positioning circle – either to the left or right of the center depending on the jump direction.
Ensure there is enough room for the individual to jump and land while remaining within full view of the camera.
- Facing side-on to the camera, stand up straight with feet shoulder-width apart and arms by sides.
Instructions
- When ready, press the 'Start rep' button.
- Perform a broad jump with the intent to produce as much power and jump forward as far as possible, while landing safely.
Repetitions
- Reps are automatically detected and displayed in the right side panel during a test.
- Reps are detected when the person lands and their center of mass returns to the starting position.
- Repeat this test for the desired number of repetitions.
The test can be performed from either side of the field of view.
Having trouble detecting Broad Jump reps?
If you experience difficulties detecting accurate Broad Jump reps, ensure that proper protocol is being observed and that your testing conditions are supporting optimal motion capture.
Tips:
- Ensure the individual is clearly side-on (±45°) before starting the rep.
- Maintain a clean and still 'neutral' period before moving.
- Drop clearly into the countermovement (≥ 7 cm CoM drop).
- Push off explosively – the system needs a clean upward signal.
- Land in view of the camera, stick the landing, then stand tall remaining stable for a moment.
