To ensure your VALD system remains clean, sanitary and in good working condition, we recommend regular cleaning and sanitising of the device, plus any additional hardware such as accessories or attachments. This article provides advice for general use.
Materials and tools
For routine cleaning (i.e., after each use), your system can be wiped down with a simple solution of detergent and water plus a soft cleaning cloth.
After pre-cleaning, disinfecting should be carried out as often as needed according to the requirements of your setting.
To properly sanitize VALD systems, we recommend choosing alcohol-based cleaning solutions. These products will usually be labelled as ‘disinfectants’ on the packaging. For sanitizing to be effective, all label instructions must be observed regarding dilution and contact time of your chosen solution.
Use:
- Routine cleaning: Solution of any general detergent and warm water.
- Sanitizing/disinfecting: Solutions or products with alcohol in a concentration of at least 70%.
- Soft, lint-free cloth (e.g. microfiber) or paper towels (non-abrasive).
Avoid:
- Harsh chemicals such as bleach or ammonia-based products.
- Abrasive tools (like scouring pads or metal brushes) which could damage surfaces or coatings.
Cleaning procedures
Ensure that the system is powered off and all cables disconnected before starting any cleaning practices.
Device and attachments
Wipe the device and attachments with the cleaning/sanitizing solution and non-abrasive cloth, focusing on high-touch surfaces and buttons. Leave to air dry.
Straps, wraps, cuffs and accessories
For straps, wraps and cuffs, saturate the cloth with the sufficiently diluted cleaning/sanitizing solution. Wipe the saturated cloth over the body of the strap, wrap or cuff. Leave to air dry.
Do:
- Allow all parts of the system to air dry completely before connecting the device to power.
- Spray or apply chemicals/solutions on the cleaning cloth rather than directly onto the device.
Don't:
- Use alcohol-based products on clear plastic surfaces, such as screens.
- Clean in or around USB/other ports; avoid introducing moisture to these areas.
